Apologies for the lack of new shows over here. The Hard-Boiled Poker Radio Show continues to be on hiatus, although I do have ideas for new episodes and hopes to revive it here at some point.

One bit of news to report. The Poker Radio Network launched earlier this year, a new streaming radio station where one can here several poker-related programs, including episodes of the Hard-Boiled Poker Radio Show. Kind of a “syndication”-type situation, with the old eps being played several times during the week. Here’s the PRN schedule page for info on when the shows air as well as all of the other shows.

You can also still click through here on the blog to the shows to listen or download. Additionally, you can get the show in iTunes. (That link launches iTunes.)

As those who have listened to any of those episodes know, the episodes aren’t really “time-bound,” meaning (hopefully) they remain as interesting or entertaining well after they are first made and posted. Much thanks again to all of those who’ve listened in the past and sent along nice feedback. And if you happen to be a new listener and have found the site, drop me a note and let me know what you think. And perhaps send along suggestions/ideas for future shows, too, if you got ‘em.

You can leave comments here or review the show over in iTunes. Or you can email me directly at shamus at hardboiledpoker dot com.

Hey all. Wanted to touch base and let you know that another episode of the show is in the works and should be coming before too long. Sorry about the gap between episodes, but it has been a busy time over the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, here are a couple of items to keep you occupied. First, TripJax has written a nice review of the show over on his blog -- check it out here. Much appreciated, friend!

Finally, those of you who enjoy The Hard-Boiled Poker Radio Show should check out another new poker podcast, the Gambling Tales Podcast, hosted by Special K and Falstaff. They started GTP a couple of months ago and have already created six very entertaining episodes thus far. All shows feature an interview segment, as well as various stories from gambling history.

If you want to read more about it, I wrote a post over on my primary blog a while back that gives some more details, titled “The Gambling Tales Podcast Rocks.”

The shows are very well produced and make for fun listening. I may actually be appearing on some of the GTP shows in the near future to talk about poker books -- keep an eye on the Gambling Tales Podcast website for information regarding the shows. So, while yr waiting around for Shamus to get off his keyster and make a new episode of the HBPRS, go check out and enjoy the Gambling Tales Podcast, why dontcha?

Talk to you soon!

It’s 1984, and Michael Jackson is king —even in Waihau Bay, New Zealand. Here we meet Boy, an 11-year-old who lives on a farm with his gran, a goat, and his younger brother, Rocky. Shortly after Gran leaves for a week, Boy’s father, Alamein, appears out of the blue. Having imagined a heroic version of [...]

Really enjoyed Adrian Grenier’s (HBO’s Entourage) doc Teenage Paparazzo about 13-year-old paparazzo Austin Visschedyk. Turning the tables on this kid, Grenier stepped on the other side of the lens in an attempt to mentor a teenager obsessed with the lure of the Hollywood lifestyle.
Hoping to land an interview. We’ll see.

Saw a fascinating HBO Doc called Secrets of the Tribe this morning. The film challenges the field of anthropology and more specifically those who studied the Yanomami Indians.
I had an interview scheduled with the director but I received this text message shortly after the screening:
“Hi – apologies but Jose Padhila (Secrets of the Tribe) [...]

Having press credentials doesn’t necessarily guarantee you a seat for press screenings. You line up like cows in a heated tent like this one. No big lines yet this morning. I got here early so I’d be sure to get in for the doc, Secrets of the Tribe.

The final movie of day 1 at Sundance 2010.
Six New Yorkers juggle love, friendship, and adulthood. Written, directed, and starring Josh Radnor.
I didn’t love this movie but it has it’s moments and a couple stand-out performances from Tony Hale and Kate Mara.

A brother makes a documentary on how his three sisters survived severe childhood abuse by their father.
This is probably a movie you’ll never see. But it doesn’t matter. This family needed it and if you get a chance to see it you’ll be glad you did.
I’ll be interviewing the director (brother) on a couple [...]

Ever wonder what it’s really like to be in the trenches of war?
Restrepo takes you there in a disturbingly up-close and visceral way as Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington dig in with soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley.
I’m still reeling from this film and hopefully will be for a long time.

Just saw Nowhere Boy, a biopic of John Lennon’s formative teenage years. I was very moved by this film. Great performances by Aaron Johnson (Lennon), Kristin Scott Thomas, Anne-Marie Duff, and a wonderful Thomas Brodie Sangster as Paul McCartney.
